When I moved to the USA in 2008, I realized I didn’t belong.

On a typical day, I would wake up at 4:30a.m., be ready by 5:30a.m. so I could ride with my sister and catch the 6:20a.m. train. I would then get off at the last stop, take the 7:30a.m. bus, and be at the office by 8:00a.m. for a job that I wasn’t even excited about.

While I was grateful to have a job, I wasn’t happy.

At first, I thought it was a matter of time adjusting to a new country and lifestyle. “Give it some time…

I first moved to the United States in 2008.

It was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made in my life.

As an ambitious Nicaraguan, I had always wanted to become an American citizen, but I knew that opportunity came at a high cost.

It was painful to leave my family, friends, and the life I was comfortable with to pursue the “American Dream.”

The first three months were the hardest.

While I was staying with my sister, it didn’t make things any easier.

I didn’t have a job, friends, or even a car to move myself…

After my mother died in 2018, I wished I’d spent more time with her.

One day I get to fly back home and give her one big hug, then the next day she’s gone unexpectedly.

I knew she was sick but I thought I was going to have more time with her.

I made the assumption that she was going to be around for a while, even with her sickness.

But it was nothing more than wishful thinking.

I think we all have made this mistake at some point in our lives.

We assume we have all the time in…

“The way people see others is a reflection of themselves” -John Maxwell

The first time I traveled with Courtney was in February 2014 to Nicaragua where she taught me a very important lesson about photography:

She mentioned that the camera lens is the most important piece of equipment for a photographer because it determines the quality of the pictures.

Higher quality lens = higher quality pictures.

Having a skill to capture breathtaking moments is key but the lens helps in amplifying those moments.

I’ve been thinking about this lately and how we all have our own internal…

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. Mark Twain

Start a business.

Get a job.

Go to college.

Take this class.

Buy a house.

Do X because everyone else is doing it.

These are some of the things that people will tell you as if they know what’s best for you.

Everybody wants to tell you how to live your life but it’s only a reflection of their own thinking, not yours.

Nobody knows what’s best for you…..except you.

The main challenge today is gathering the courage…

Start doing what is necessary; then do what is possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. -St. Francis of Assisi

Bigger Is Not Always Better

I encourage all of my friends and family to think big and have a greater vision for themselves and the world.

But to achieve great things we have to start small and we have to start with ourselves.

It was Napoleon who said “The only conquests which are permanent and leave no regrets are our conquests over ourselves.”

What small step can you take today that will help you gain momentum and lead you to bigger…

The way you communicate with yourself and others sets the tone for the quality of life you lead. -Cesar Romero

WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?

Everybody knows what communication is.

But how come most people have a hard time communicating with each other?

Communication is EVERYTHING!

It’s the art of expressing your needs to others and how they can help you and letting others know what you can give and how you can help them.

It sounds very simple but it’s probably one of the most difficult skills to master.

It involves a lot of listening, observation, and introspection, which we are…

I just finished reading “Linchpin” by Seth Godin and I highly recommend it.

It’s full of ideas that are going to inspire you to make a difference, stand for something, and give your unique gifts to the world in a society that functions within a broken system.

You don’t need to quit your job or start a business to become indispensable.

All you need to do is make a choice; a choice of whether to do indispensable work or not.

It’s up to you.

Seth mentions that indispensable work is all about putting intention, passion, and emotion…

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover”. -Mark Twain.

People think that I’m running away from a normal life with my travels.

My parents once told me that they hoped this “travel phase” would pass quickly so I could settle down and get a conventional job.

My friends always ask me “are you ever going to stop traveling?”.

The general perception…

8 Rewards Your Job Should Offer in 2016

If your job is not giving you these 7 rewards in 2016, it’s time to stop and reconsider what you are doing.

-Challenge and Responsibility

I encourage you to take on more challenges and responsibilities (personally and professionally) that are going to push you outside your comfort zone and help you grow.

Getting up an hour earlier.

Learning a new skill.

Dropping 10 pounds.

Reading 52 books/year.

Eating more organic food.

Becoming a role model for yourself, your family, and friends.

You don’t need anyone’s permission or instructions to get started on this.

Just go ahead and do it.

….and…
