The way you communicate with yourself and others sets the tone for the quality of life you lead. -Cesar Romero

WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?

Everybody knows what communication is.

But how come most people have a hard time communicating with each other?

Communication is EVERYTHING!

It’s the art of expressing your needs to others and how they can help you and letting others know what you can give and how you can help them.

It sounds very simple but it’s probably one of the most difficult skills to master.

It involves a lot of listening, observation, and introspection, which we are not used to in these days of instant gratification and social media.

Social media, blogs, public speaking, books, writing, journaling, online courses, entrepreneurship, relationships, etc; they all rise and fall on communication.

The number one skill I try to hone every day is the art of communication.

WHAT MAKES COMMUNICATION GREAT?

Great communication is consistent, clear, and respectful.

Also, great communication takes a lot of listening and observation.

Our physical body is a great example of good communication.

Every single part of the human body is constantly communicating with each other to make sure everything’s running smoothly.

When people say “listen to your body” that’s exactly what they mean. It’s constantly communicating what it needs to perform at its best.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE

Your body wants your attention.

Your mind wants your attention.

Your friends want your attention.

Your mom wants your attention.

Your significant other wants your attention.

Your favorite celebrities want your attention.

Your clients want your attention.

I want your attention.

You get the point.

EVERYBODY and EVERYTHING wants your attention.

It’s overwhelming at times.

The biggest challenge for everyone (myself included) is setting boundaries and priorities.

Who are you going to listen to?

Who do you want to effectively communicate with?

What matters to you?

(Hint: start with yourself)

Every morning after I get out of bed I listen to myself by answering these 3 questions:

-What are you grateful for?

-What would make today great?

-What’s your affirmation for today?

Thanks to The Five-Minute Journal for the inspiration.

Prioritize yourself so you can give more to the things that matter to you.

If there’s one skill you should master every day, let it be the art of communication.
