Take Care Of The Little Things
By Cesar Romero
Start doing what is necessary; then do what is possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. -St. Francis of Assisi
Bigger Is Not Always Better
I encourage all of my friends and family to think big and have a greater vision for themselves and the world.
But to achieve great things we have to start small and we have to start with ourselves.
It was Napoleon who said “The only conquests which are permanent and leave no regrets are our conquests over ourselves.”
What small step can you take today that will help you gain momentum and lead you to bigger outcome?
Back in December 2015, I purchased a writing/journaling tool called The Five-Minute Journal.
I had been wanting to get serious about writing for a while but somehow life always got in the way and I’d make all these excuses of why I’m not writing everyday.
I realized that writing, just like anything else, is all about developing a writing habit, where you make writing part of your daily routine.
The Five-Minute Journal helps me everyday to develop a writing habit because it’s so simple, doesn’t take too long, and it helps me gain focus and clarity first thing in the morning.
Daily small acts of courage lead to the best version of yourself.
The Day You Succeed (Or Hit Rock Bottom)
Think about your favorite celebrity that you look up to.
Do you think they achieved celebrity status overnight?
Of course not!
They took care of the little things (that matter) in a consistent manner which led them to bigger things.
In my case this would be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
When he got started in professional wrestling he sucked so much that people booed him out of the building and they even had “Die Rock” signs all over the arena.
And this wasn’t a one time incident. It went on for months and months.
But this didn’t stopped him from showing up every single day and giving his best performance.
Suddenly, one day, after years and years of showing up, he became one of the biggest superstars of professional wrestling, which helped him develop his successful acting career.
Good things or bad things don’t happen overnight.
Success or failure don’t happen overnight.
People usually get shocked when someone reaches that “overnight success” one day in a seemingly effortless way.
Or when someone suddenly hits rock bottom and doesn’t know how to get back up.
But what they don’t realize is that success or failure are both an accumulation of the things you do or don’t do everyday.
The Little Things You Can Do Everyday to Win The Day
The little things don’t take that much time but make all the difference in the long term.
Here are some little things you can do every day to improve your life and be a little bit better than yesterday:
- Working out for at least 20 minutes.
- Meditating or having moments of silence where you can organize your thoughts.
- Daily affirmations or encouraging words you tell yourself to achieve your goals.
- Minimizing sugar intake.
- Writing/journaling 500 words
- Saving/investing $20 a day.
- Calling your mom for 5 minutes.
- Telling your friends and family “I Love You”
- Following up with that business partnership.
- Read positive thoughts and ideas to improve yourself for at least 30 minutes.
These and many other little things, if done daily, can make all the difference.
I’m not writing about this because I’m immune to it and I’m over taking care the little things.
All the opposite.
I’m writing about it as a reminder to you and me that everyday matters and that taking care of the little things in a consistent way is what makes all the difference.
Darren Hardy calls this “the compound effect”, where seemingly insignificant changes can create huge differences in outcomes, even when there are no immediate results.
