The Most Valuable Resource I Have Ever Given For FREE
After participating in one of their trips back in April 2013, I really wanted to join this travel startup called Under30Experiences.
As an advocate for connection, personal growth, and adventure, it was the perfect fit for me and my lifestyle.
But there was one problem…..I had ZERO experience in startups and traveling.
They needed someone with experience in:
- Travel industry
- Sales
- Leading trips
- Figuring out logistics
- Community management
- Marketing and operations
- Social media
And a whole lot more!!
But I really wanted to be involved and was determined to making it happen!
So I made a deal with the co-founders where I would do work for free in exchange of having an opportunity to collaborate together in growing the company.
I gave my time, hustle-mindset, and inexperience away for FREE!!
For months and months, I hustled in every way possible to contribute to the growth of the company.
I made a lot of mistakes and the experience itself was the reward.
Perhaps the only thing I had to my advantage was the fact that I can speak Spanish fluently and I have a down-to-earth welcoming personality…..and I also gave them away for FREE.
Here are some of the things that have become possible thanks to the Under30Experiences community:
-Joining StartingBloc and Hive leadership communities.
-Working with people that I actually like and enjoy their company.
-Traveling to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Iceland, and Peru.
-Opening my eyes to freelancing and working on projects I truly enjoy.
-Meeting my now fiance Jennifer DeSimone
-Visiting my family at least once a year and not worrying if I have “enough” vacation time.
-The Under30Experiences community: one of the most awesome communities and we are just getting started.
-Rich20Something community and the freelance master Daniel Colossus DiPiazza
-Giving me the courage to continuously make mistakes on the road to designing my own life.
Would I do this all over again?
Absolutely!
It has been a rollercoaster and there will be more ups and downs….but the people I have met and the experiences we have shared are irreplaceable.
Give your best work and effort away…for FREE without expecting anything in return.
You never know where it could take you until you connect the dots looking backwards.
Just like what Steve Jobs said:
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path; and that will make all the difference.”
